Wiidigendiwin, Ojibwe for wedding. I am inspired by nature and the organic beauty in how it forms. My wife and I wanted to be as connected to our wedding ceremony as possible and chose to work in harmony to create what would ultimately be our honeymoon suite, our tipi. We harvested and crafted each pole ourselves. In a group effort, we cut and carried 18 trees off our families property (the land we would eventually marry on) then after a season of drying out the wood, we returned eager to strip each pole by using a drawknife, followed by sanding and staining to finish. This project has been one of my most purposeful and pride filled work. I appreciate the architectural details and the unfolding process of creating this strong, reliable structure that has upheld in the best and worse of Michigan weather. For me, this tipi is a symbol of love, partnership, inspiration, initiation and union. It is a reference point I continue to go back to for inspiration.
